I saw many hosting companies selling unlimited hosting to their clients. What’s the truth??? Many people ask me. Is it really unlimited or its a SCAM?? Have you ever heard of Unlimited Hard Disk on your PC?
Here’s the answer, those hosting companies are just overselling their space and bandwidth.
Now, what does overselling means?
Overselling means selling over and over. lol. Actually, these hosting companies make this type of packages only to market and get clients easily. Yes, they make you FOOL. They think you will signup blindly with them. Are you blind? :D . All servers have a LIMITED HDD.
So, How is overselling done?
Simple, Hosting companies add their clients site in 1 server until their server space is full. Suppose, they have 160GB HDD and they say that they are giving you UNLIMITED webspace. They do know you will not use more than 1GB space. Most of people use only 10-20 MB webspace. Imagine, clients are using 1GB space as an average. So, hosting companies can add 160 websites easily to a server and they earn good $$$ .
Again, Is overselling BAD?
Of course, It is BAD. A server should remain 20% empty. Lots of sites make the server slow , so slow loading of your website will occur.
Woah, Woah, woah! I asked my hosting company they say they dont oversell or if they oversell they keep their server 20-30% FREE.
LOL. So, You believe your hosting company. So, sweet. They are making you nuts. Lets do some calculations here.
A GOOD server with 160 GB costs around $250 USD per month i.e.. 3000 USD per year.
They charge you 20 USD per year. So, If they added 160 clients sites, they earned total 3200-3000 = 200 USD per year.
Do you think they will work for 16.66 USD per month ???
